It covers 395 km² and is home to 2,041,587 people — 5,169 per km², making it the 1st most densely populated district in the country. It borders Bhaktapur, Dhading, Kavrepalanchowk, Lalitpur, Makwanpur, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchok.
