Chitwan (चितवन) is one of Nepal's 77 districts, in Bagmati Province. Its headquarters is Bharatpur. It covers 2,218 km² and is home to 719,859 people — 325 per km², making it the 18th most densely populated district in the country. It borders Dhading, Gorkha, Makwanpur, Nawalpur, Parasi, Parsa and Tanahu.
